Tips for Dining Out in Rainbow Beach

When dining out in Rainbow Beach, there are a few practical tips to keep in mind to enhance your experience:

Dining Times

Many of the local eateries and restaurants cater to both lunch and dinner crowds. For instance, Maheno’s opens at 10am, making it an ideal spot for a hearty lunch or a relaxed dinner. Be sure to double-check the opening times first on the day you go though, as it shuts for a portion of the afternoon between the lunch and dinner rush on Mondays-Thursdays.

The Deck @ Sea Salt is open for breakfast and lunch from Monday to Tuesday, and on Wednesdays to Sundays extends its hours to include dinner as well.

Rainbow Beach Sports Recreation and Memorial Club (also known as just ‘Rainbow Beach Sports Club’) is open 7 days a week for both dinner and lunch at their ‘Cherry’s Steakhouse’ restaurant. At the time of writing this guide, their lunch hours are 11:30am-2pm and dinner hours are 5:30pm-8:30pm. Rainbow Beach Sports Club also has a sports bar, which is great for catching a game and enjoying a cold drink.

A note on confirming open hours ahead of time

Remember that dining times can change frequently, so it’s a good idea to double check opening times before you plan to dine. We recommend calling ahead and checking in advance, or checking opening times on Google maps, for any place you’re looking to dine.

Reservation Recommendations

While some restaurants in Rainbow Beach may accommodate walk-ins, making a reservation is always a wise choice, particularly during peak seasons or for dinner at popular spots.

Restaurants like the Rainbow Beach Surf Life Saving Supporter’s Club Restaurant and Cherry’s Steakhouse at Rainbow Sports Club offer the option to reserve a table, which can help avoid disappointment and long waiting times.

Dress Code

Rainbow Beach has a laid-back, casual vibe typical of Australian coastal towns. Most dining establishments, including casual spots like Maheno’s or more scenic locations like The Deck @ Sea Salt, don’t require formal attire. Comfortable, casual wear is generally acceptable, though it’s always a good idea to check if you plan on dining at a more upscale restaurant.

Menu Options

Many restaurants in Rainbow Beach offer a range of menu options catering to different dietary preferences.

If you’re in the mood for seafood, Arcobaleno on the Beach is especially known for its excellent seafood pasta, a must-try for enthusiasts. If you’re looking for the classic fish & chips, Ocean Breeze Seafoods is a popular option, especially for those looking to grab takeaway and take it somewhere scenic along the water.

Arcobaleno also has vegetarian options, while Rainbow Beach Hotel offers vegetarian and Gluten Free options.

Rainbow Beach Hotel is a great choice for pizza, seafood, and from the grill options, as well as  pub style meals.

Little Parliament Cafe has vegetarian and vegan options, as well as gluten free options for breakfast and lunch.

It’s best to ask ahead for dietary requirements

Dietary options aren’t always available on the menus online, so it’s a good idea to call ahead if you have a specific requirement and can’t see it accommodated on the menu. Some venues even have a special dietary menu, separate to the main menu, so it pays to ask the staff if you’re unsure.

Alternative options

Of course, dining out at a restaurant or grabbing takeaway isn’t the only option for eating in a great location at Rainbow  Beach.

Some great alternative options are:

  • Stop at the local butcher and grab some quality meat to cook on a BBQ in the park
  • Head down to the IGA and grab some picnic fare to enjoy on the beach (which is at the end of the main street) for a sweet little picnic
  • For a convenient and unique option, if you have a 4wd, you can drive it onto the beach at the end of town and enjoy a meal in the comfort of your aircon while looking directly onto an unbeatable view.
  • And of course, fish and chips on the beach, topped off with gelato is always going to be a winner.
